Silicone Rubber Gaskets (VMQ)

VMQ flat gaskets for food, medical and high-temperature static sealing. FDA and USP Class VI grades available.

Overview

Silicone rubber gaskets, made from VMQ (vinyl methyl silicone), are specified when a flat static seal must survive extreme temperatures, repeated sterilization, or food and pharmaceutical contact. The polymer chain gives silicone outstanding low-temperature flexibility — down to approximately −60°C — and continuous service up to +200°C, with short excursions higher in specially formulated grades. VMQ is naturally odorless and tasteless, which makes it the default choice for food processing, medical devices and pharmaceutical equipment. FDA 21 CFR 177.2600 and USP Class VI grades are available in translucent, white, red or high-visibility orange. Platinum-cured silicones offer lower extractables than peroxide-cured grades and are preferred for the most sensitive applications. The weaknesses of silicone are low tensile strength, poor petroleum oil resistance, and limited pressure capability compared to NBR or FKM. Silicone gaskets are therefore used in static, low-to-moderate pressure joints where temperature or compliance matters more than mechanical toughness. Typical forms include full-face flange gaskets, ring gaskets, sheet stock, and custom die-cut profiles for equipment doors and manways. We supply VMQ silicone gaskets from 30 to 80 Shore A, with 50–60 Shore A most common for conformable food-equipment seals. Provide drawing, hardness, color and compliance requirement when requesting a quote.
