Hydraulic Seals — Piston, Rod & Wiper Seals

Hydraulic seals are precision-engineered sealing elements that contain pressurized fluid in hydraulic cylinders, motors, valves and pumps while excluding contamination from the system. Unlike O-rings, which are general-purpose toroidal seals, hydraulic seals are profiled specifically for reciprocating dynamic service under high pressure. The main categories are rod seals, piston seals, wipers/dust seals, guide rings and V-packing sets. Each category manages a different leak path or wear mechanism in the cylinder. Rod seals are installed in the cylinder head and seal the retracting and extending rod. They must retain high-pressure fluid on the cylinder side while allowing a thin lubricating film to return to the system on the retract stroke. Piston seals are installed in the piston groove and seal across the cylinder bore. They must handle bidirectional pressure in double-acting cylinders or unidirectional pressure in single-acting designs. Wipers or scrapers are mounted on the outer side of the rod gland and scrape dirt, moisture and abrasive particles from the rod surface before it enters the seal package. Guide rings—also called wear rings or bearing bands—prevent metal-to-metal contact between the piston and bore or the rod and head. They absorb side loads caused by misalignment, weight or external forces, protecting the elastomer seals from extrusion and the cylinder surfaces from scoring. V-packing seals are multi-piece chevron or V-shaped sets used in high-pressure pumps, plungers and rams. They adjust automatically to wear by tightening the packing nut, making them ideal for applications with frequent pressure spikes or abrasive media. Our hydraulic seal range includes U-cup profiles such as UN, UHS and UPH; composite seals such as KDAS, OK and SPGW; PTFE-bronze low-friction seals including step seals and Glyd rings; and fabric-reinforced V-packing sets. Materials include high-wear TPU, NBR and fabric, POM and TPU composites, and PTFE filled with bronze for extreme pressure and low friction. Every profile can be supplied in standard metric and inch sizes or manufactured from your cylinder drawing.
