Overview

A rubber o ring is a toroidal elastomer seal that sits in a machined groove and seals by compression between two mating surfaces. It is the most widely used static and low-speed dynamic seal in fluid power, automotive, aerospace and industrial equipment. Unlike a flat rubber gasket, which seals across a bolted flange face, a rubber o ring needs a groove — but it returns much higher sealing pressure per unit area and tolerates higher pressures when the gland is properly designed. We supply rubber o rings in the same elastomer families used across our sealing range. NBR is the default for oil, fuel and hydraulic fluid. EPDM handles water, steam, ozone and outdoor exposure. VMQ silicone covers food, medical and extreme-temperature static service. CR neoprene resists refrigerants, ozone and marine environments. FKM provides high-temperature and broad chemical resistance. Standard sizes follow AS568 inch dash numbers, ISO 3601 metric series, and JIS B 2401. Custom rubber o rings are available in any inner diameter and cross-section with no mold fees on standard circular profiles. When ordering, specify ID, cross-section (CS), material, hardness, quantity and the standard or drawing required.

NBR Rubber O-Rings

Nitrile / Buna-N rubber o rings for oil, fuel, hydraulic fluid and general industrial service. The most cost-effective choice for petroleum-based media.

EPDM Rubber O-Rings

Ethylene propylene rubber o rings for water, steam, brake fluid, glycol and outdoor UV exposure. Not compatible with petroleum oils.

Silicone Rubber O-Rings

VMQ rubber o rings for food, medical, pharmaceutical and high-temperature static sealing. FDA and USP Class VI grades available.

Chloroprene rubber o rings with balanced ozone, weather and refrigerant resistance. Moderate oil resistance for general-purpose outdoor service.

Fluoroelastomer / Viton rubber o rings for aggressive fuels, hot oil and chemicals. Continuous service up to +200°C.
