Overview

Neoprene rubber gaskets — also known as chloroprene gaskets or CR gaskets — balance moderate oil resistance with excellent weather, ozone and UV stability. This makes CR the practical choice for outdoor enclosures, marine hardware, HVAC equipment and refrigeration systems where neither the oil resistance of NBR nor the water resistance of EPDM alone tells the whole story. The typical service temperature for CR neoprene gaskets is −40°C to +120°C. It resists refrigerants such as R-22 and many HFC blends, although compatibility should be verified for each specific refrigerant and oil combination. CR also tolerates saltwater and weathering better than NBR, but it is not recommended for strong oxidizers, ketones or aromatic fuels. Common applications include marine hatch seals, refrigeration compressor gaskets, HVAC access doors, outdoor electrical cabinets and weather stripping. Forms include sheet stock, ring gaskets, full-face flanges and custom die-cut profiles. Standard hardness is 50–70 Shore A for compressible seals; 80–90 Shore A for higher bolt-load retention. We stock black CR neoprene sheet and cut gaskets to drawing. When requesting a quote, specify refrigerant or media if applicable, hardness, thickness, and whether the application is exposed to continuous UV or ozone.

Is neoprene the same as chloroprene?

Yes. Neoprene is the DuPont trade name for polychloroprene rubber; CR is the ISO/ASTM abbreviation. Neoprene gasket and chloroprene gasket refer to the same elastomer family.

Are neoprene gaskets weather resistant?

Yes. CR has excellent resistance to ozone, UV and oxidation, making it a standard choice for outdoor and marine gaskets.

Can neoprene gaskets be used with refrigerants?

How does neoprene compare to NBR for oil resistance?
