CR O-Rings for Refrigeration & HVAC
Neoprene seals for legacy refrigerant systems, HVAC service ports and outdoor compressor gaskets.
CR (chloroprene, trade name Neoprene) occupies a practical niche in refrigeration and HVAC — moderate resistance to legacy CFC/HCFC refrigerants, good ozone and weather resistance for outdoor units, and lower cost than FKM for service port and gasket applications.
Where CR is still specified
- HVAC service port Schrader valve caps and core seals
- Window AC and residential split compressor gaskets
- Chiller water-side fittings (not refrigerant side on modern systems)
- Outdoor refrigeration condenser access panels
Modern refrigerant reality
For R410A, R32 and CO2 systems, HNBR and FKM have largely replaced CR because higher operating pressures and polar refrigerants stress neoprene compounds. CR remains common in R134a automotive AC service parts and legacy R404A/R507 equipment maintenance.
Do not use NBR on new high-pressure R410A systems — pressure and lubricant chemistry require HNBR or FKM. See automotive AC application.

Why CR for This Application
Legacy refrigerant compatibility
Suitable for R134a, R404A and R507 service in moderate-pressure zones — verify for your specific blend.
Ozone & UV resistance
Better outdoor durability than NBR for rooftop HVAC and condenser access covers.
Moderate oil swell
Tolerates mineral refrigeration oil in service port and low-pressure suction line static seals.
Cost-effective service parts
Lower cost than FKM for HVAC maintenance assortments where FKM is not mandated.

FAQ
CR or HNBR for R410A HVAC systems?
HNBR or FKM for R410A high-pressure zones. CR is legacy — acceptable for some low-pressure service ports on older equipment but not for new R410A compressor seals. Check OEM specification.
Is neoprene the same as CR for O-rings?
Yes. Neoprene is the trade name for chloroprene (CR) elastomer. O-ring datasheets use CR; HVAC trade literature often says neoprene.
Can CR O-rings contact POE refrigeration oil?
CR tolerates mineral oil well. POE (polyolester) synthetic oils used with HFC refrigerants may swell CR moderately — HNBR or FKM is preferred on the high-pressure liquid line. CR remains acceptable for many service port applications.
CR vs EPDM for HVAC outdoor units?
CR has better refrigerant oil tolerance. EPDM has better water and steam resistance. For refrigerant-side seals, CR or FKM; for condensate drain and water line, EPDM.
What hardness for refrigeration service port O-rings?
70 Shore A is standard for Schrader and service port seals. 75 Shore A for higher-pressure R404A/R507 service equipment.
Do you supply HVAC refrigeration O-ring kits?
Yes — CR and HNBR assortments for service port, gauge hose and common compressor gasket sizes. Mixed CR/HNBR kits available for shops servicing both legacy and R410A equipment.
