Pneumatic Cylinder Seal Sets

Matched seal sets for ISO 15552, ISO 6432 and manufacturer-specific pneumatic actuators

Overview

Pneumatic cylinder seal sets are matched collections of sealing elements installed in a single actuator to convert compressed air into reliable linear motion. A typical double-acting cylinder set includes a piston seal, a rod seal, two rod wipers and two cushion seals. Because these seals share the same bore, rod diameter, groove geometry and operating conditions, specifying them as a set ensures compatible friction, wear life and dynamic response across the entire actuator. ISO 15552 is the most common standard for profile-style pneumatic cylinders, covering bore sizes from 32 mm to 320 mm with standardized groove dimensions for piston and rod seals. ISO 6432 covers compact round-body cylinders from 8 mm to 25 mm bore. We supply seal sets for both standards as well as direct replacements for common manufacturer series including SMC C96/CP, Festo DSBC/DNC and AirTAC SC/SU. The right seal set depends on more than bore diameter. Air quality, cycle rate, temperature, lubrication and side load all affect material choice. NBR is the default for clean, lubricated plant air. TPU is preferred for high-cycle or minimally lubricated applications because of its wear and tear resistance. FKM is used when the air is hot or contaminated with synthetic lubricants or chemical vapors. Our cylinder seal sets are organized by bore diameter and rod diameter. Each set is matched to the groove geometry of the target cylinder standard or manufacturer series. For non-standard or proprietary cylinders, we assemble custom sets from drawing or sample. Maintenance departments can keep common bore sizes in stock to minimize downtime during actuator rebuilds.

Cylinder Seal Set Types

ISO 15552 Cylinder Seal Sets

Complete seal sets for profile cylinders from 32 mm to 320 mm bore. Includes piston seal, rod seal, wipers and cushion seals matched to ISO groove standards.

Best for: Industrial automation, packaging, assembly lines, general pneumatics

ISO 6432 Compact Cylinder Seal Sets

Small-bore seal sets for round-body compact cylinders from 8 mm to 25 mm bore. High-density sealing for confined piston and rod glands.

Best for: Electronics assembly, medical devices, compact machinery

SMC-Compatible Cylinder Seal Sets

Seal sets matched to SMC C96, CP and related series groove geometries. Direct replacement for SMC actuators without hardware modification.

Best for: SMC actuator maintenance and rebuild

Festo / AirTAC-Compatible Seal Sets

Seal sets matched to Festo DSBC/DNC and AirTAC SC/SU groove profiles. Common replacements for European and Asian profile cylinders.

Best for: Festo and AirTAC actuator maintenance and rebuild

Materials

MaterialPropertiesBest For
NBR-40°C to +120°C; low compression set; good resilience; standard for compressed airClean, lubricated plant air and standard cycle rates
TPU-35°C to +80°C; excellent abrasion and tear resistance; long life in high-cycle serviceHigh-speed automation, rodless cylinders, abrasive or minimally lubricated air
FKM-20°C to +200°C; resistant to heat, synthetic lubricants and chemical vaporsHigh-temperature pneumatics, food plants, chemically contaminated air

Sizing

Pneumatic cylinder seal sets are primarily sized by cylinder bore diameter and rod diameter. ISO 15552 and ISO 6432 standards define common bore sizes and groove geometries. Provide the cylinder model, bore, rod diameter and stroke, or send a drawing for set matching.

ISO 15552 Standard Bores

  • Bore diameters: 32, 40, 50, 63, 80, 100, 125, 160, 200, 250, 320 mm
  • Includes piston, rod, wiper and cushion seals
  • NBR and TPU standard

ISO 6432 Compact Bores

  • Bore diameters: 8, 10, 12, 16, 20, 25 mm
  • Compact piston and rod seal sets
  • NBR standard; TPU optional

Frequently Asked Questions

What is included in a pneumatic cylinder seal set?

A typical double-acting cylinder seal set includes one piston seal, one rod seal, two rod wipers and two cushion seals. Single-acting cylinders require fewer components. We match the set to your specific actuator model and groove geometry.

How do I select the right seal set for my cylinder?

Provide the cylinder manufacturer, model number, bore diameter, rod diameter and stroke. If the label is missing, send photos of the cylinder and old seals, or send a sample seal for cross-reference.

Can I mix materials in a seal set?

Yes. It is common to use TPU for the piston seal in high-wear applications while keeping NBR for rod seals and wipers. We can assemble mixed-material sets based on your operating conditions.

Are these sets compatible with SMC and Festo cylinders?

Yes. We supply sets that fit ISO 15552, ISO 6432 and common manufacturer-specific grooves used by SMC, Festo, AirTAC and other brands. Send the cylinder model for cross-reference.

What is the lead time for standard seal sets?

Standard ISO 15552 and common manufacturer sets in NBR typically ship within 7–15 business days. TPU and FKM sets may require 10–20 business days. Custom sets depend on material availability.

Can you supply seal sets for obsolete cylinders?

Yes. We can reverse-engineer seal sets from samples or drawings for discontinued or proprietary cylinders. Custom sets are available with no minimum order quantity for standard compounds.
