TG4 / TC Rotary Shaft Oil Seals
Standard metal-cased rotary shaft lip seals for pumps, motors, gearboxes and axles
Overview
TG4 Oil Seal Types
Standard TG4 / TC Double-Lip Seal
Primary oil-sealing lip with garter spring plus a secondary dust lip. The default choice for pumps, gearboxes and motors in clean to moderately dusty environments.
Best for: General industrial rotary shafts, gearboxes, electric motors
TG4 with Stainless Steel Case
304 or 316 stainless steel outer case for corrosive washdown, marine and food-grade applications where carbon steel would rust.
Best for: Food processing, marine, chemical exposure, washdown equipment
High-Speed TG4 Seal
Optimized lip geometry and materials for surface speeds above 10 m/s. Reduced contact area lowers friction and heat generation.
Best for: High-speed spindles, turbo equipment, small electric motors
Custom TG4 Profile
Non-standard ID, OD, width, lip angle or spring material manufactured from drawing or sample. MOQ from one piece.
Best for: Legacy equipment, obsolete OEM parts, special envelope constraints
Materials
| Material | Properties | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| NBR 70 Shore A | -40°C to +120°C; excellent mineral oil and grease resistance; good wear life | Standard gearboxes, pumps, hydraulic motors, general industrial |
| NBR 80/90 Shore A | Higher modulus and abrasion resistance; reduced extrusion under pressure | Abrasive environments, higher pressure, rougher shaft surfaces |
| FKM 75 Shore A | -20°C to +200°C; resistant to synthetic oils, fuels, acids and aromatics | High-temperature engines, chemical exposure, synthetic lubricants |
| FKM 80 Shore A | Higher stiffness for improved extrusion resistance at elevated temperatures | Hot oil pumps, turbochargers, high-performance gearboxes |
Sizing
TG4 seals are ordered by shaft diameter (ID) × bore diameter (OD) × width. Standard tables cover 20 mm to 210 mm shaft diameter with matching OD and width dimensions. We can cross-reference common TC, SC, TB and SB profiles and supply custom dimensions from drawing.
TG4 / TC Standard
- • 20–210 mm shaft diameter
- • Common widths: 7, 8, 10, 12 mm
- • NBR and FKM standard stock
Custom TG4
- • Any ID, OD and width per drawing
- • Special lip angles and spring materials
- • MOQ from 1 piece
Frequently Asked Questions
Is TG4 the same as TC oil seal?
Yes. TG4 and TC describe the same double-lip metal-cased rotary shaft seal with a garter spring. TG4 is widely used in Asian catalogs; TC is common in North American and European references. The dimensions, tolerances and installation requirements are identical.
What is the maximum shaft diameter for standard TG4 seals?
Our standard TG4/TC tables cover shaft diameters from 20 mm to 210 mm. Larger diameters, special widths and non-standard profiles are manufactured to drawing with no minimum tooling charge for elastomer designs.
Can TG4 seals handle pressure?
Standard TG4/TC seals are designed for essentially atmospheric or low-pressure splash-lubricated housings. For pressurized housings above approximately 0.5 bar, specify a high-pressure version such as TCV or contact us for a pressure-rated lip design.
How do I install a TG4 oil seal without damaging the lip?
Use a clean shaft with a lead-in chamfer, lubricate the lip and shaft, and press the seal squarely into the bore by the outer metal case only. Avoid pressing on the rubber lip. A dedicated installation sleeve or driver prevents the lip from rolling over the shaft edge.
What surface finish is required on the shaft?
A shaft surface finish of Ra 0.2–0.8 µm is recommended. The surface should be free of circumferential machining marks, scratches and corrosion. Hardened shafts above 45 HRC provide the best wear resistance in abrasive or high-speed service.
Do you supply TG4 seals in FDA or food-grade compounds?
Yes. FDA-compliant NBR and FKM compounds are available for food, pharmaceutical and beverage equipment. Stainless steel cases can also be supplied for washdown environments.
